Jharkhand Education Minister and Senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Leader Jagarnath Mahto passed away on April 06 in a hospital in Chennai. He was admitted to the hospital last month. He was 56 years old. Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister Hemant Soren have condoled the death of the Late Mahto. Jagarnath Mahto was born on January 01, 1967. He played an active role in the movement to make Jharkhand a separate state.

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) is the only State/Central/Private University in India to get this score. 

Guru Nanak Dev University, in its fourth cycle of Assessment and Accreditation has been accredited with a CGPA (cumulative grade point average) of 3.85 out of 4.00 at A++ Grade which will be valid for the next seven years.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai is the only other educational institution with a higher grade of 3.89/4.00 in the country.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai :- (A Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956) || The Tata Institute of Social Sciences, established in the year 1936 is a Deemed to be University, fully funded by the University Grants Commission, Govt of India. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) :- The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was established in 1994 as an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) with its Headquarter in Bengaluru. The NAAC conducts assessment and accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions such as colleges, universities or other recognised institutions to derive an understanding of the "Quality Status" of the institution.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is a government organisation in India that assesses and accredits Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). It is an autonomous body (स्वायत्त निकाय) funded by the University Grants Commission.

Accreditation refers to the certification given by NAAC which is valid for a period of five/seven years.

NAAC was established in 1994 in response to recommendations of National Policy in Education (1986).

CGPA :- Cumulative Grade Point Average is a educational grading system. It is used in schools and colleges to measure overall academic performance of a student/college. It is most commonly used to assess a student's overall academic achievement on a given subject.

It is an outcome of the recommendations of the National Policy in Education (1986).

The NAAC functions through its General Council (GC) and Executive Committee (EC) comprising educational administrators, policy makers and senior academicians from a cross-section of Indian higher education system. 

The Chairperson of the UGC is the President of the GC of the NAAC, the Chairperson of the EC is an eminent academician nominated by the President of GC (NAAC). 

The Director is the academic and administrative head of NAAC and is the member-secretary of both the GC and the EC.

Q. Is NAAC a statutory body?
:- No, it is not a statutory body.
Statutory body or authority means a non-constitutional body which is set up by a parliament. These are non-constitutional bodies as they do not find any mention in the Constitution. They are created by an Act of Parliament. 

Example of a statutory body is SEBI i.e. Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI Act, 1992).

:- NAAC is an autonomous body that assesses and accredits Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in India and is funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).






Q. What is the difference between NAAC and UGC?
:- NAAC is an acronym for the National Assessment and Accreditation Council while UGC is the University Grants Commission.
:- UGC is responsible for approving Universities or Colleges whereas NAAC accredits the programs offered in the University or institute.
:- The main aim and responsibility of the University Grants Commission (UGC) are providing funds and that of coordination, determination and maintenance (समन्वय, दृढ़ संकल्प और रखरखाव) of standards in institutions of higher education. विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग (यूजीसी) का मुख्य उद्देश्य और जिम्मेदारी उच्च शिक्षा संस्थानों में समन्वय, निर्धारण और मानकों के रखरखाव के लिए धन उपलब्ध कराना है।
:- NAAC is an autonomous body (स्वायत्त निकाय) that is funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Eligibility Criteria for NAAC :- Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), with a record of at least two batches of students graduated or been in existence for six years, whichever is earlier, are eligible to apply for the process of Assessment and Accreditation (A&A) of NAAC, and fulfill all the specified conditions.

GNDU has been awarded the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad trophy for overall excellence in sports for a record 23 times. The Current Vice Chancellor of the University is Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu.

India plans to give green hydrogen fuel producers incentives worth at least 10% of their costs under a $2 billion scheme set to begin before the end of June, a top government official said.


New Delhi this year approved a 174.9 billion rupee incentive plan to promote green hydrogen in a bid to cut carbon dioxide emissions and become a major exporter in the sector.


The government will give incentives worth at least 30 Indian rupees per kg for production of green hydrogen fuel. The cost of manufacturing green hydrogen, which is made using renewable energy rather than power derived from fossil fuels, in India is currently at about 300 rupees per kg.


India has set targets for half of its installed electricity capacity to be from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 and for the country to attain net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.

Indian Navy is being represented by INS Kiltan, an indigenous Kamorta class ASW corvette and INS Savitri, an Offshore Patrol Vessel. The Sri Lanka Navy is being represented by SLNS Gajabahu and SLNS Sagara. Maritime Patrol Aircraft, helicopters and Special Forces from both the sides would also participate in the exercise. The previous edition of SLINEX was conducted off Visakhapatnam from 07-12 March 2022.


SLINEX aims at enhancing interoperability, improving mutual understanding and exchanging best practices while jointly undertaking multi-faceted maritime operations.  Professional, cultural and sporting events, as also social exchanges are planned during the harbour phase to further bolster the bonds of friendship and camaraderie between both the navies.

The Geographical Indication Registry has granted the GI tag to the world-famous Banarasi Paan and Banarasi Langda Mango. GI Tag (Geographical Indication) is given to those products which show the geographical identity of that region.


Known for its delicious taste, the Banarasi Paan is made using special ingredients in a unique way. Along with the Banarasi Paan, three other Varanasi-based products -- Banarasi Langda Mango, Ramnagar Bhanta (Brinjal), and Adamchini Rice -- also received the GI tag, said Padma Awardee GI expert Dr Rajinikant. 


It is a tag given to locally made or produced products that have a specific geographical origin. Also, it was first introduced in 2003, under which Darjeeling Tea was first given this tag.

India's private space company Skyroot Aerospace successfully held fire testing of the 3D-printed cryogenic engine Dhawan-II. This engine was in active mode for about 200 seconds. Its testing has been done in Nagpur for the indigenously built Vikram-II rocket. Dhawan-II is a 3.5-kilo newton (kN) engine named after Indian rocket scientist Dr Satish Dhawan. Skyroot Aerospace is a private aerospace company in India, established in 2018.

The Mangdechhu hydroelectric project (HEPP) is a 720MW run-of-river power plant built on the Mangdechhu River in Trongsa Dzongkhag District, central Bhutan.

The handover was held in Thimphu on December 27th, 2022.

The 720 Megawatts Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Power Project, which was implemented with the assistance from India, was recently handed over to the Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) in Bhutan.

With this handing over, the two countries have successfully completed four mega hydroelectric power projects.

The 720 MW project Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Power Project was jointly inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart Lotay Tshering in 2019.

The Indian Government provided the financial and technical assistance for the construction of this hydroelectric project.

The commissioning of this hydroelectric power project has increased the electrical power generation capacity of Bhutan by 44 per cent and it is currently at 2,326 Mega Watts.

The project has generated more than 9,000 million units of energy since the commissioning, bringing down 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Bhutan’s first mega power project – 336 MW Chukha Hydropower Project (CHP) – was fully funded by the Indian Government.
