The Election Commission of India has issued a new list of national and state political parties. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been given the status of a national party. The Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar and the Trinamool Congress led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been removed from their National Party status. Along with this, the Communist Party of India (CPI) of D. Raja has also lost the status of a national party.


HOW DOES A POLITICAL PARTY GET "NATIONAL" STATUS

To be recognised as "National" -

:- The particular party should hold the "regional party" status, in at least four states.

:- It should have won at least 3 per cent of seats in the Lok Sabha from the four states.

:- It should have secured at least 6 percent of votes in the Lok Sabha or the Vidhan Sabha elections.

THE BENEFITS OF GAINING "NATIONAL" STATUS
Once a political party is recognised as a national party -

:- It can contest elections anywhere in the country.
:- The party can field candidates in any state.
:- The party is allotted one election symbol valid across the entire country, no other party can use it.
:- A proposer can remain present with the candidate at the time of filing of nomination.
:- The party will get two sets of voter list revisions by the Election Commission.
:- Party candidates also gain access to the voter list.
:- The party could open a central office in Delhi, on land provided by the government.
:- The party can field 40 star campaigners.
:- Expenditure on the star campaigners will not be included in the election expenditure of the party candidate
:- The party gets time to convey its message to the masses through All India Radio and Doordarshan.

WHAT A PARTY LOSES ONCE "NATIONAL" STATUS IS LOST

The Election Commission holds the authority to strip national parties of the coveted status. Once this is done -

:- The party symbol will not be visible at the beginning of the EVM or ballot paper.
:- The particular party may or may not be invited to attend Election Commission meetings.
:- The political funding of the party may be affected.
:- The party may not be allowed to connect to the masses through Doordarshan and All India Radio.
:- The number of star campaigners will be reduced from 40 to 20 during elections.
:- The party will have to use a separate symbol to contest elections in states.

Union Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju released the first edition of the Dogri version of the Constitution of India at University of Jammu. On April 10, 2023, India released the first edition of the Dogri version of the Indian Constitution.

Dogri is a language spoken in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir and is one of the 22 official languages recognized by the Indian Constitution.

Dogri is one of the official languages of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. On 22 December 2003, in a major milestone for the official status of the language, Dogri was recognized as a national language of India in the Indian constitution.

The Dogri version of the Constitution of India was released by Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. It was released at Jammu University. Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Justice Koteshwar Singh of Ladakh High Court were also present on this occasion. The Constitution of India is one of the longest-written constitutions in the world. Recently, the Ministry of External Affairs released the "Seven Decades of the Constitution of India" on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. A seminar was organized on the subject.

Amit Shah launches vibrant villages programme on China border in Arunachal Pradesh.

He is visiting Arunachal Pradesh days after China renamed 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh. The scheme has a central component of ₹4,800 crore, including ₹2,500 crore exclusively for road connectivity, for financial years 2022-23 to 2025-26.

The "vibrant villages programme"was earlier approved by the Centre under which 2,967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts abutting the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory of Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

In the first phase, 662 villages have been identified for priority on coverage, which includes 455 villages in Arunachal Pradesh.

Shah also inaugurated 9 micro hydel projects of Arunachal Government and 14 infrastructure projects Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) worth Rs.120 crore.

The home minister is on a two-day visit of the northeastern state and will be inaugurating a number of projects in the region, including nine micro hydel plants constructed under the "Golden Jubilee Border Illumination Programme."

Exercise Cope India 23, a bilateral Air Exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the United States Air Force (USAF) is being held at Air Force Stations Arjan Singh (Panagarh), Kalaikunda and Agra. The exercise aims to enhance mutual understanding between the two Air Forces and share their best practices.

The first phase of exercise has commenced today. This phase of the exercise will focus on air mobility and will involve transport aircraft and Special Forces assets from both the Air Forces. Both sides will field the C-130J and C-17 aircraft, with the USAF operating an MC-130J, as well. The exercise also includes the presence of Japanese Air Self Defence Force aircrew, who will participate in the capacity of observers.

Fast bowler Harshal Patel, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL has become the fastest Indian to take 100 wickets in IPL. Harshal achieved this feat by taking the wicket of Mark Wood of Lucknow Super Giants. Harshal completed his 100 wickets in the 79th innings of the IPL. Earlier, this record was in the name of Bhuvneshwar Kumar who completed his 100 wickets in the 81st innings.




Delhi Capitals captain David Warner became the fastest batsman to score 6000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL-2023) during the match against Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. He is now the only third batsman to join this elite club after Royal Challengers Bangalore's Virat Kohli and Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan. David Warner has achieved this feat in 165 innings.
